What Do School Chaplains Do?

SU QLD chaplains provide spiritual and emotional support to school communities.
They are in the prevention and support business: helping students find a better way to deal with issues ranging fromfamily breakdown and loneliness to drug abuse, depression and suicide.
They provide a listing ear and a caring presence for kids in crisis and those who just need a friend.
They also provide support for staff and parents in school communities.

Karen Turner

Karen Turner

I am very privileged to be the Chaplain at Kalbar, Aratula and Warrill View Schools. My role involves being a listening ear and caring presence in these school communities.   I enjoy spending time with children, listening to their stories, and sharing life with them.  I like to encourage them to help each other, be kind, express their emotions appropriately, find solutions to problems and to be confident in who they are.

Irene Hurren

Hi, my name is Irene Hurren, and I have been a chaplain in the Fassifern area since mid 2010. I have been involved with a number of schools, and at present I am the chaplain for Boonah, Harrisville, Mount Alford and Maroon State Schools.
The workload is constant, the students are special, the staff are amazing and the support staff, cleaners, maintenance and administration all contribute to the privilege of working in a very special place.
